How to Make Glitter Stickers: Complete DIY Guide

Materials You'll Need

Gather these before you start. If you're into DIY, you might already own most of the materials; if not, they are extremely easy to find at a craft store or online.

Alternatively, you can use printable glitter vinyl or glitter sticker paper, which already has the sparkle built in. If you go that route, use a clear laminate sheet on top instead of the glitter one. The rest of the process stays exactly the same.

Step 1: Prepare Your Design

Start with your design saved as a PNG file or any format that supports a transparent background. This matters because your printer only lays ink where your artwork is, so the final sticker follows the shape of your design instead of printing as a plain block.

Bold, bright colors work best here. The glitter layer sits on top of your print, and strong colors show through it better than pale ones. Keep the shapes fairly simple too, especially if you do not own a cutting machine.

Step 2: Set Up Your Canvas and Add an Offset 

Open Canva or your favorite design software and create a canvas the size of your sticker paper. In most cases, that is A4. Upload your design, resize it, and place it on the canvas.

Don't stop at one design. Copy it a few times or add different designs to fill the sheet, so you don't waste sticker paper. Leave a small gap between each one to make cutting easier.

Next, add an offset. An offset is a colored border around your design that gives you a clear line to cut along. It is optional, but it makes hand cutting easier and gives your stickers a store-bought look.

In Canva, select your design, click Edit, open Shadows, and choose Outline. Then adjust the size, color, and intensity until it looks right. 

Note: Avoid using white offset for DIY stickers, because it blends into white sticker paper and disappears (unless you have a contrasting outline around it). Even if you're using a glitter paper that can show a white offset, a regular home printer cannot print white. Light gray or a soft color works better. Once you are happy with the layout, download it as a PDF Print.

Step 3: Print Your Sticker Sheet

Load your sticker paper into the printer and make sure it matches what your printer supports, inkjet or laser.

In the print settings, pick the right paper or media type and choose the highest quality option. Print at 100% or Actual Size so the printer does not shrink or stretch your designs. If you are unsure about the result, run a test print on plain paper first.

Step 4: Apply the Glitter Laminate

This step adds the sparkle. First, let the ink dry completely. Wet ink can smudge under the laminate, and inkjet prints can take a little longer to dry.

Peel the backing off your glitter laminate sheet and place it over the printed side, starting from one edge. Smooth it down slowly toward the other edge, pushing out air bubbles and wrinkles as you go. An old gift card or a craft scraper works well for this. Take your time, because the laminate is hard to lift once it sticks.

Tilt the sheet under a light when you finish. You should see the glitter catch it right away.

Step 5: Cut Out Your Stickers

Move the sheet onto a cutting mat. If your design has an offset, cut along that line. Scissors handle simple shapes well, and a craft knife gives you more control on curves. A ruler helps with straight edges.

Keep your blade sharp, since the laminate adds a little thickness to the sheet. If you skipped the offset, imagine a border about 2 mm wide around each design and cut along that instead. This keeps the edges clean and gives you room for small mistakes.

If you own a cutting machine, upload your file, load the sheet, and run a small test cut first. This helps you find the right blade depth and pressure before you cut the whole sheet.

Step 6: Peel and Apply

Peel the backing off your sticker and press it onto a notebook, water bottle, phone case, or laptop lid. Clean the surface first so the sticker holds well. Press it down from one side to the other to avoid air bubbles.
